- GPL-3.0 §6: when GPLv3 object code is conveyed in, with, or specifically for use in a User Product (consumer products, or products for incorporation into a dwelling) and possession passes to the recipient, the Corresponding Source must be accompanied by the Installation Information: the methods, procedures, authorization keys or other information needed to install and run modified versions. The requirement does not apply if neither the conveyor nor any third party retains the ability to install modified object code on the product. The GPL FAQ calls the practice this prevents "tivoization".
