- Definition
- SAS Note 41121: SAS 9.2 and later for Windows "provides the option to license SAS software based on a limited number of cores and a specific machine name or computer name. This is called subcapacity licensing." "Subcapacity licensing is based on the total number of cores, not the number of processors."
- Counting rules
- Count the cores reported by the operating system (for virtual machines, the number of CPUs configured on the VM). The SID file records the licensed core count in the SERIAL field (for example SERIAL='+4') and the computer name in MODEL/MODNUM. SAS 9.3 and 9.4 compare physical cores with the SID file and ignore hyper-threading; SAS 9.2 counts logical processors. The CPUCOUNT system option does not reduce the count: the machine itself must have no more than the licensed cores.
- Floors / minimums
- The machine may have the licensed number of cores or fewer; more cores stop SAS from starting.
