- OpenEdge EULA s.3.1.6: "“Named User” means a single individual, Non-Human Operated Device or Process." s.3.4.2: a Named User or Seat License grants "the right to designate a Named User to access and use the Product or access and use an application which can access the Product."

- Each Named User must be identifiable and countable, need not be logged on to be counted, and may not be shared or designated concurrently on different devices. Not limited by Core, CPU or Server count but restricted to a single Platform. Designations may be transferred when the original Named User no longer needs access. Devices such as bar code scanners and automated background Processes are Named Users too.
