Snyk licensing

This article is an overview of how Snyk sells its developer security platform: the Free and Team self-serve plans, the credit-based Snyk Platform Subscription for enterprises, the closed Snyk Platform Access plan, and the terms that govern them. Deeper articles cover contributing developers and test limits, the credit rate card, and the Terms of Service. It is not legal advice.

On This Page

Snyk licensing is the set of plans and terms under which Snyk sells access to its developer security platform. The platform scans source code (Snyk Code), open source dependencies (Snyk Open Source), container images (Snyk Container), infrastructure as code (Snyk IaC), secrets and running web applications and APIs (Snyk API & Web).[16] It is a hosted service. The Terms of Service grant a “non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-assignable (subject to Section 11.9), non-sublicensable right” to access and use the Services, Support and Documentation during the Term for the Permitted Purpose.[2] Catalog proof: Use is limited to internal business operations on owned Code Assets.

Snyk now sells in two ways. The pricing page offers “Simple flat-rate access for small teams” through the Free and Team plans, and a “Flexible credit-based platform for enterprise” through the Snyk Platform Subscription.[1] Older enterprise contracts were priced by contributing developers and tests. The test-counting documentation says its rules do not apply to credit-based licences, and points to the Snyk Platform Access plan for credit licences bought on or before 31 December 2025 and to Platform Credit Consumption Licensing for those bought on or after 1 January 2026.[6] Catalog proof: Credit-based licences are governed by date of purchase.

Editions

Plan Published price Size limit Main differences
Free USD 0 5 projects SCA, SAST, IaC and Container; real-time scanning; IDE, CLI and SCM integrations[1]
Team from USD 25 per month, billed monthly Up to 10 developers; 100 projects Higher test limits per product, Jira integration, next business day support[1]
Snyk Platform Subscription Contact sales Credit balance Pre-purchased credits usable on any capability, including Snyk Evo[1]
Snyk Platform Access Closed to new customers Credit balance Credits drawn per monitored test on Code, Open Source, Container and IaC[4][5]

The Team plan is described as “For development teams of up to 10 developers”.[1] Catalog proof: Team plan is capped at 10 developers. The Team card quotes a monthly price. The plan data embedded in the same page sets it per developer, and also gives a lower rate per developer for yearly billing; buyers should confirm the checkout price.[1] Both self-serve plans are bought by card under a Service Plan, which the Terms define as the plan “described at https://snyk.io/plans selected by you”.[2]

Snyk Evo capabilities, such as AI Pentesting and Coding Agent Security, are not sold on the self-serve plans: “Currently, Snyk Evo capabilities are not available via the Free or Team plan.”[1] Catalog proof: Evo capabilities require an Enterprise Platform Subscription. Snyk Essentials, the asset discovery and coverage product, “is included in the Snyk Enterprise plan”.[11] Catalog proof: Snyk Essentials requires an Enterprise plan.

Snyk also runs a separate offering for US federal agencies, Snyk for Government (US). It follows FedRAMP and NIST controls and lacks some features of the commercial service. For example, “API keys are not available”, and Snyk Code there does not include Code Search or Snyk Agent Fix.[14]

Metrics

Unit Catalog row Where it applies

The Terms tie these units together through the Subscription Allocation, defined as the limits on use “including test limits and any other limits concerning the number of Contributing Developers, Credits or Code Assets”.[2] The detail of each unit is in Snyk contributing developers and test limits and Snyk Platform Subscription credits and rate card.

Counting / floors

On developer-based plans, Snyk counts commits rather than named users or logins. The Usage settings page states that Snyk “does not count contributions to public (open-source) repos because the pricing model is based on the number of contributing developers to private repositories”, and that each contributor is counted only once across integrations and repositories.[7] Catalog proof: Public repository contributions are not counted, Each contributor counted once across integrations.

Test limits are counted separately for each product. They apply only to private repositories. On Team and Enterprise plans they cover only Snyk Code and Snyk Open Source, and IDE tests do not count.[6] The Free plan limits are published per product, but two Snyk pages disagree on the figure for Open Source: the plans page FAQ gives 200 tests and the Usage settings page gives 400.[1][7] Catalog proof: Free plan test limits are published per product. The Team plan comparison lists 1,000 Snyk Code tests per month.[1]

On the credit plan, the rate card sets credits per unit per day. Code and Open Source cost 1.0 credit per Active Contributor per day, IaC 0.33, Secrets 0.66, Container 0.33 per Monitored Image per day, and API and Web 3.0 per Provisioned Target per day.[3] Active Contributors “may be human or non-human”, which brings bots and service accounts into the count.[3] Catalog proof: Active Contributors include bots and service accounts.

Snyk Essentials is measured in Managed Billable Assets, which are repositories and container images. Snyk may raise an overage if usage runs 20% above the plan for a rolling 90 days, or 100% above it for 30 days. It states that “Except in unusual circumstances, Snyk will not invoice retroactively for Managed Billable Asset overages.”[10] Catalog proof: Essentials asset overage triggers an expansion invoice, not retroactive billing.

Virtualization & partitioning

There is no installed product to partition. Hosting is regional, and an account exists in one region.[16] Container usage on the credit plan is counted by image digest rather than by host, and Coding Agent Security is counted per machine; see Snyk Platform Subscription credits and rate card.[3]

Cloud / BYOL

There is no bring-your-own-licence right. On the Enterprise Your Plan page, a badge shows when an organization buys through the AWS Marketplace or the Google Cloud Marketplace.[12] Purchases through a Channel Partner are paid under the terms agreed with that partner, while the Terms of Service still govern use.[2] Catalog proof: Channel partner purchases follow the partner payment terms.

Programs

  • On-Demand Consumption. Snyk “verifies its customers’ use of the Services to ensure compliance with the Subscription Allocation”, and may invoice use above the allocation in arrears at its current rates.[2] On the credit plan, “Exhausting your prepaid credits will not, in itself, result in you losing access”.[1]
  • Credit Usage Policy. Unused credits expire at the end of the Order term and are not refunded or transferred.[3] Rate changes are announced 30 days in advance on the Billing and Usage dashboard.[4]
  • Automatic renewal. Paid terms default to one year and renew for one-year periods unless notice is given at least 30 days before the end, at Snyk’s then current rates.[2]
  • Evaluation and 14-day trial. Snyk can be tried through the Free plan, a self-serve 14-day trial or an Enterprise pilot. The trial excludes features such as SSO, service accounts, audit logging and Broker.[8]
  • Secure Developer Program. Qualifying open source maintainers receive “A Snyk account with full enterprise entitlements”, valid only for their open source projects.[9]

Contract documents

The Terms of Service apply to free, evaluation and paid use. They also apply to an Order Form that references them.[2] The version retrieved is dated 2026-09-18. Earlier versions, dated from 2020-04-08 to 2026-08-04, are archived.[15] Snyk API & Web is also governed by an addendum, which limits self-serve customers to 60 scans of the same target per month.[13] Catalog proof: Self-serve Snyk API & Web is limited to 60 scans per target per month. The terms are covered in Snyk Terms of Service.

Out of scope

This article does not cover the open source licences of the packages that Snyk Open Source reports on, or Snyk’s licence compliance features. It does not cover Snyk Learn, consulting and support service packages, or the signed Software as a Service Agreement, which is published as a PDF outside snyk.io. Credit prices per customer are set in each Order and are not public.
