Manhattan ActivePlatform is the shared cloud foundation under every Manhattan Active solution from Manhattan Associates. For licensing purposes it is the thing a customer subscribes to, even though the order form is written per solution. Manhattan says each edition runs on ActivePlatform, which gives operations a common data model, integration layer, security posture and AI governance.[3] The platform bundles four named components beyond the solutions themselves: ActiveAgents (prebuilt AI agents), Agent Foundry (an agent builder), ProActive (a low-code extension tool) and Solution Design Studio.[3]
Editions
ActivePlatform is not sold separately and has no editions of its own. Edition choice (Essentials, Enterprise, Enterprise Premier) is made per solution, and every edition sits on the same platform.[3] The edition matrices show the platform foundation lines as Included in all three editions of the four edition-based solutions: cloud-native microservices architecture, data management and enterprise security, evergreen innovation every 90 days, and extensibility with API-first integration.[11] The same matrices put two platform-related lines on the other side: ActiveAgents with Agent Foundry, and Data Stream and Data Save, are Add-Ons in all three editions of ActiveWarehouse.[11] See Manhattan Active editions and solution matrices for the full tables.
Metrics
Manhattan does not publish a charge metric for the platform. The unit the public pages use is the subscription itself: Manhattan states that its solutions are hosted on the Google Cloud platform in a multi-tenant model and are offered as a subscription service.[1] The Developer Hub page says its guides, coding and configuration examples cover every application and accompanying tools such as Data Save and Data Stream, “provided with your Manhattan Active solution subscription”.[5]
Three platform constructs can be counted on an entitlement record even without a stated meter. These are the lower lifecycle environments, the number of ProActive extensions and extension packs in each environment, and the number of Add-On modules. Manhattan describes ProActive tools for tracking, provisioning and monitoring extension lifecycles and migrating extensions between environments,[6] which makes the environment a natural unit even though the pages do not state a limit.
Counting / floors
No floors are published, and the pages reviewed do not set limits on API calls, data volumes or users. Two statements bear on counting. Manhattan describes the platform as exposing “thousands of integration-ready REST API endpoints”,[2] and describes unlimited API access to configure, call or extend any function within any Manhattan Active solution.[6] Both statements concern what can be called, and neither is a licence term. A customer that integrates heavily should still check the order form for fair-use, rate or volume provisions, because the public pages are silent on them.
On environments, the matrices differ. ActiveOrder lists lower-lifecycle environment support, for testing, training and operational readiness, as Included from the Enterprise edition,[12] whereas ActiveWarehouse lists Additional Lower Lifecycle Environments, to expand testing and validation capacity for deployment and training, as an Add-On in every edition.[11] How many environments an edition includes is not stated.
Virtualization & partitioning
Not applicable in the usual sense. The platform is a multi-tenant service built on Google Cloud services including Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, Interconnect and BigQuery, and Manhattan’s cloud operations team hosts and manages it around the clock.[1] The same page describes automatic scaling and auto-repair using the concurrency of microservices and Kubernetes.[1] Because Manhattan runs the infrastructure, the customer has no host, core or instance to count. The editions announcement repeats that there is zero infrastructure for the customer to manage.[13]
Cloud / BYOL
There is no BYOL construct. Delivery rules are the commercially relevant part of the cloud model:
- Release cycle. Manhattan says all Manhattan Active solutions receive new features and enhancements every 90 days, requiring zero downtime and flexibly enabled to match operational needs.[2][6] There is no customer-run version upgrade to schedule or license, and the ActivePlatform page states that customers get no downtime and no upgrades.[3]
- Operations. Manhattan states that the solutions are offered as SaaS, hosted and managed on Google Cloud Platform by its cloud operations team 24/7/365, with seventy-two security controls prescribed by SOC regulations and SOC 2 compliance.[1]
- Open-source components. The platform is described as developed, tested and deployed using widely accepted open-source languages, frameworks and runtimes.[1] The pages do not list the components or their licences.
Programs
ProActive and Developer Hub
ProActive is described as a low-code solution for creating and extending logic, data, APIs and user interfaces.[4] Its FAQ lists four modification options: custom data attributes on base objects, extension points that call out to custom services during standard workflows, user interface extensibility, and REST APIs for integration.[4] It also provides an extension management dashboard for packaging multiple extensions, migrating extension packs and monitoring performance.[4] Manhattan says extensions are built on the same microservices architecture so that they upgrade with the platform instead of breaking against it.[3] The training course named ProActive U covers extensibility, API and extension point documentation, and building and deploying extensions.[4]
For asset managers the point is ownership and support boundaries, not a licence fee. Customer extensions are customer-built code running inside Manhattan’s multi-tenant service, and the public pages do not say who owns them or how support applies to them. Those questions belong in the master agreement.
Developer Hub is the documentation environment. It carries documentation sets for point of sale, order management, store inventory and fulfillment, customer service and engagement, allocation, warehouse management, labor management, transportation management and yard management, plus API documentation for every microservice API.[5]
Data Save and Data Stream
Manhattan’s data management services offer two options. Data Save is a Manhattan-managed copy: it replicates production data to a Manhattan-managed MySQL instance, lets the customer specify retention requirements and handles purging.[7][8] Data Stream is a customer-managed copy: it continuously transfers data to customer-managed destinations, and it does not propagate the purging of historical data, so the customer decides what to purge at its own destination.[8] The data model implication is that a Data Stream destination is a customer system with its own database and cloud licences, which fall outside the Manhattan subscription.
The commercial status of the two services is described inconsistently. The developer tools page lists them as a tool “included in every Manhattan Active solution”,[6] while the ActiveWarehouse matrix lists Data Stream and Data Save as an Add-On in all three editions.[11] Neither statement is a contract. A review should record which wording the order form follows.
ActiveAgents and Agent Foundry
ActiveAgents are prebuilt agents with supply chain and commerce skills. The page names examples such as a Supply Chain Labor Agent, Supply Chain Wave Agent, Commerce Store Agent and Commerce CSR Agent.[10] Agent Foundry is the tool for creating custom agents, with a template path for business practitioners and a from-scratch path for developers.[9] Agents can call Manhattan APIs and external system APIs, can integrate external agents using MCP and A2A protocols, and can be published to Google Gemini Enterprise.[9] Manhattan states that guardrails and content sanitization controls are enforced when agents are built.[9]
Three public statements describe the commercial status:
| Page | Wording | Reading |
|---|---|---|
| Edition matrices (ActiveWarehouse, ActiveTransportation, ActiveOrder, ActiveStore) | The ActiveAgents and Agent Foundry line is marked Add-On in Essentials, Enterprise and Enterprise Premier | Separate order item |
| Agent Foundry page FAQ | Agent Foundry and ProActive are complementary tools included with all Manhattan Active solutions[9] | Included |
| ActiveAgents page | Agent Foundry is included with every ActivePlatform solution[10] | Included |
The matrix line bundles prebuilt agents and the builder, while the other two statements name only Agent Foundry (and ProActive). A cautious reading is that the builder and ProActive tooling are part of the subscription and that prebuilt ActiveAgents or some agent capabilities may be ordered separately, but the pages do not say so. Customers who plan to deploy agents should obtain written confirmation, including whether the underlying model usage is metered, because the public pages do not state that either way. For wider context on AI licensing see Generative AI licensing.
Audits and compliance
The public pages describe security and assurance rather than licence verification. Manhattan describes a security-driven development lifecycle with static, dynamic and penetration testing,[1] and the programs are covered in Manhattan support, services and trust programs.
Out of scope
This article does not cover the edition matrices for individual solutions, support and services, hardware procurement, or legacy on-premises products. It does not cover Google Cloud’s own terms, which are not part of the public Manhattan pages reviewed, and it does not assess third-party connectors (payment, tax, carrier) that customers may license from other vendors.
