dbt State, dbt Wizard and dbt Copilot are the usage-metered parts of the dbt platform. They are priced under the dbt Labs Service Consumption Table, which applies whenever a customer uses a “Consumption Commit Add-on Product” and is effective 1 July 2026.[1] The pricing page describes the add-ons as having “no seats, no minimums” and says they can be bought separately and run against self-hosted dbt or added to a dbt platform plan.[4]
Two ways to pay
An Upfront Commit Plan is a subscription plan that requires an upfront one-time purchase of a Consumption Pool, a prepaid fungible dollar pool that draws down as the add-ons are used. If a customer has several Accounts on one plan, the pool can be applied to any of them. When the pool runs out, dbt Labs notifies the customer that it is in Arrears, and the customer may buy more or continue on monthly billing of Monthly Spend while it complies with the agreement.[1] A Monthly Plan bills the costs of the prior billing period.[1] A Committed Use Discount may appear on the Order Form in exchange for committed spend.[1]
dbt State
What it does and who can use it
dbt State lets dbt reuse nodes by cloning them from another location or skipping a rebuild when logic and data have not changed. It is a separate, usage-based product available to dbt v1, dbt platform and dbt v2 users, and a paid platform plan is not required to use it locally, though a dbt account is needed to manage billing and spend limits.[2]
Metric: daily active target tables
The unit is the daily active target table (DATT): the number of distinct target tables for which dbt State performs at least one skip, clone or test reuse on a given UTC day. Repeated reuses of the same table in a day count once.[1] A target table is a database object managed by the project, covering seeds, snapshots and models (including incremental), and each distinct test, even if its failures are not stored. The documentation’s example is a model with not_null and unique tests, which is three target tables.[2] A model reused by dbt State does not count as a Successful Model Built.[5]
Rate and trial
The list rate is USD 0.094 per DATT, so 100 DATT cost USD 9.40, unless a Committed Use Discount or other discount is on the Order Form.[1][2] Eligible new organisations get 30 days of free use with no usage limit, which cannot be paused. Afterwards a credit card or enterprise contract is needed. Customers using state-aware orchestration before 1 June 2026 have the trial extended.[2] The pricing page lists a 30-day free trial and a pay-as-you-go price of USD 0.094 per DATT, with custom pricing for upfront commits.[4] During arrears the DATT rate stays at list unless a discount is on the Order Form, and any discount applies only for the first two billing periods in arrears.[1]
dbt Wizard
dbt Wizard is an AI agent for analytics engineering. With dbt Managed AI, usage is measured per model and token type and billed at the Model Provider rates published on a dashboard, then converted to Consumption Units of one million tokens that draw down the Consumption Pool. Committed Use Discounts do not apply to those provider rates. If the customer brings its own key (BYOK), the provider bills it directly.[1] dbt Labs gives 30 days’ written notice before changing Managed AI pricing, except where it only passes on provider rate changes.[1]
Credits depend on plan: Enterprise accounts get USD 100 a month and Enterprise+ USD 200 a month per account, resetting each billing month. All other plans and self-hosted dbt users get a one-time 30-day trial with USD 100. Credits are per account, not per seat, and pools do not roll over.[3] Enterprise tiers should add a committed spend amount to keep using Wizard, and admins can set monthly spend limits.[3] On Developer, Starter or self-hosted plans, usage pauses when the pool is exhausted until paid usage is added or the next cycle begins.[3]
From 1 September 2026, AI features are enabled by default for new accounts and rolling out to existing accounts, though organisations that opted out remain off, and Wizard moved to usage-based billing for dbt-managed AI.[3] The Fivetran Requirements for dbt Labs Services route AI-powered features to Fivetran’s AI requirements, under which the customer owns AI Content and Fivetran does not train its models on it.[7][9]
dbt Copilot
dbt Copilot is metered in completed AI requests called actions. Each plan has a monthly allotment, and when it is reached Copilot is disabled until the next billing cycle.[3] Bring-your-own-key usage is not metered by dbt Labs.[3]
Terms of Service
Term, fees and licence
The Terms of Service (updated 16 October 2025) form the Agreement together with each Order Form. Order Terms are twelve months unless otherwise agreed. Services unused in the term expire.[6] The licence is limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and non-sublicensable and covers only the Order Term and the Services in the Order Form.[6] The restrictions bar access by anyone other than Authorized Users, reverse engineering, building a competing product, resale without written permission, and use other than for internal business purposes in line with the Documentation.[6] Payment is due within 30 days of invoice, fees are non-refundable, and dbt Labs may suspend services on ten days’ written notice for overdue undisputed payments.[6]
Availability SLA
The SLA commits to availability of no less than 99.9% of the minutes in a month. Credits run from 1% for availability between 99.8% and 99.9% up to 5% below 99.5%, are capped at 5% of total monthly recurring platform fees in a month, and are issued the month after the failure. Availability below 99.5% for three consecutive months gives a right to terminate the Order Form.[6]
Contracting through Fivetran
Customers who buy dbt Labs Services under a Fivetran Master Subscription Agreement are covered by the Requirements for dbt Labs Services (effective 10 August 2026). They state that dbt Labs, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fivetran, that Fivetran remains responsible for the dbt Labs portions, that Fivetran’s consumption-based pricing provisions and Support Policy do not apply to those services, and that the customer pays the Fees in the Order Form, with excess use billed as additional Fees.[7] The Terms of Service also say that if a customer activates more Units than the Order Form allows, dbt Labs invoices only if the Order Form authorises it.[6]
Software asset management points
- Treat add-on usage as variable cost: DATT grow with test counts and incremental models, and Wizard grows with tokens. Set spend limits.
- Align Wizard access with commitments: Enterprise tiers lose access without committed spend.
- Check whether a deployment is on the Upfront Commit Plan (pool, arrears and two-month discount rule) or a Monthly Plan.
- Confirm the contracting entity and paper for each dbt Labs service after the Fivetran merger.[7]
Out of scope
The Model Provider Rate Table values, support level PDFs, security documentation and the individual Order Form pricing are not covered. The Semantic Layer trial and queried metric counting are in the plans, seats and usage article.[8]
