BambooHR sells its HR platform in three packages. The pricing page states the commercial structure in three short claims: “Comprehensive. Take care of everything HR, payroll, and benefits in one platform. Flexible. Find the perfect fit with multiple plan options and add-ons. One low monthly payment. Pay per employee, per month. Automatic volume discounts.”[1] This article sets out what each package contains, what is published about its price, and where the pricing page and the Terms of Service interact.
Editions
Core
The Core package is described as “foundational HR automation and insights”. The plan list includes employee records, a custom report builder, workflows and approvals, dashboards, candidate records, job posting, email and offer letter templates, time-off management and calendar, unlimited custom time-off policies, benefits tracking, employee satisfaction measurement with eNPS, employee wellbeing, total rewards, HR insights with company similarity comparison, compliance intelligence powered by VirgilHR, one compliance training course, On-Demand Pay and an AI Assistant for HR data questions.[1] The catalog row is Core. The On-Demand Pay description reads: “Let employees access a portion of their earned wages before payday directly in BambooHR, with no cost or added admin work for employers.”[1]
Pro
Pro is “Everything in Core, plus” performance management (360-degree review cycles, 1:1s and instant reporting), an employee community, recognition and rewards, 15 compliance training courses powered by EasyLlama and an upgraded AI Assistant that answers questions about company policies and documents.[1] The catalog row is Pro. Performance management therefore is a feature of the Pro and Elite packages on the pricing page and not a separately priced add-on, although some readers expect it to be one.
Elite
Elite is “Everything in Pro, plus” compensation management (planning, salary benchmarking with integrated Mercer benchmarks, levels and bands), customizable dashboards and advanced visualization, HR benchmarks, premium services, 300+ compliance training courses and an advanced AI Assistant for benchmark questions and analysis.[1] The catalog row is Elite. The Compensation Management Addendum states that the grant covers use “solely for Customer’s internal business purposes” and that benchmarking data may not be redistributed, sublicensed, published or disclosed without consent.[3]
Metrics
The billing unit is the Non-terminated employee and the pricing metric is Per-Employee-Per-Month (PEPM). The pricing FAQ states: “For companies with more than 25 employees, our HR software is priced on a per-employee, per-month basis. BambooHR pricing starts at $10.25 USD per employee per month for Core, $17.50 USD per employee per month for Pro, and $25 USD per employee per month for Elite. Volume discounts are applied automatically and adjust as your team size changes.”[1] The banner prices at the top of the page show rounded figures of $10, $17 and $25.[1] A reader building a budget should use the FAQ figures, which are more specific, and should note the asterisk on the banner that volume and non-profit discounts are available.
For small customers, “For companies with 25 employees or fewer, our HR software pricing is charged at a monthly flat rate of $250 USD/mo for Core, $425 USD/mo for Pro, and $650 USD/mo for Elite.”[1] The catalog row is Flat monthly rate (25 employees or fewer). The flat rate can be higher per employee than the per-employee price when a company has only a few employees, and lower at the top of the band. For example, 250 USD for 25 employees equals 10 USD each, while 250 USD for 10 employees equals 25 USD each. That arithmetic is the wiki’s illustration, not a BambooHR statement.
Counting and floors
Package allotments act as counted entitlements. The comparison table lists applicant tracking “5 Job Openings”, “25 Job Openings” and “50 Job Openings” in package order,[1] recorded as Job opening. The compliance training allotment is 1 course (Core), 15 (Pro) and 300+ (Elite), recorded as Compliance training course allotment.[1] The Elite package lists “Data integrity services (2 hours per year)” and “New administrator training (2 sessions per year)”, recorded as Premium services allotment.[1] The pricing page does not say whether unused hours or sessions carry over, or how a job opening is counted after it closes.
The AI Assistant is tiered by package, from HR data questions in Core to benchmark analysis in Elite. The Artificial Intelligence Addendum adds that use “is subject to fair usage restrictions that BambooHR may determine in its sole discretion” and that exceeding them may lead BambooHR to “disable or degrade performance of Bamboo AI”.[4] The catalog row is BambooHR AI. Time off is not an add-on: “Time-off management is included in every BambooHR plan”.[5]
The Terms of Service add the contractual layer. Fees are payable “for all non-terminated employees in the Service”, subscription fees are payable at the start of each Subscription Term, and extended term customers have an Employee Minimum and Product Minimums.[2] The next article in this group, on subscription terms, covers those.
Virtualization and partitioning
Not applicable; the packages are a hosted service with no installable server software.
Cloud and BYOL
Not applicable. There is no bring-your-own-licence option. The Terms of Service permit access “for your internal business use” and a separate instance for an affiliate requires that affiliate’s own subscription.[2]
Programs
The published discount programs are three. Volume discounts: “Volume discounts are automatically applied to all accounts based on headcount. Your discount will increase as your headcount increases—no need to request it or negotiate new pricing.”[1] The catalog row is Volume discount. Nonprofit discount: “We also offer an additional 15% off to registered nonprofit organizations.”[1] Bundle discount: “Get a 15% discount when you combine Payroll and Benefits Administration with any plan”, currently only for employees based in the US, recorded as Bundle discount.[1]
The Terms of Service attach conditions to the bundle: if a customer terminates one of the bundled Services it no longer qualifies for the bundle discount, and the customer keeps the discount only while “actively subscribed to, and utilizing the bundled Services”.[2] The same section allows prepayment discounts, with the rule that if a Month-to-Month Subscription is cancelled before prepayment is depleted, unearned fees are refunded but the prepayment discount is forfeited and the difference charged.[2] Payment methods differ by cadence: credit cards and ACH for monthly payment, and wire transfers and checks for annual upfront payment.[1]
Out of scope
This article does not cover negotiated pricing, the price of add-ons such as Payroll and Benefits Administration (not published), or the price of time clock devices (set on a Quote). It does not evaluate whether the package contents on the pricing page match any particular customer’s Order Form; if they differ, the Order Form controls.
