Acumatica editions and modules

This article is about the editions (Essentials, Select, Prime, Enterprise and the industry editions), the modules and add-on packs of Acumatica Cloud ERP, and how they are licensed. For the consumption and user metrics see Acumatica consumption and named-user licensing.

On This Page

Acumatica editions describe what a customer is entitled to run. The Licensing Guide says the product line “offers tailored solutions through its Industry Editions”, each able to include modules “designed to meet the specific needs of various industries, company sizes, and business requirements”.[1] A licence therefore has two axes: the product size, which sets consumption and user limits, and the industry edition, which sets the module list. This article covers the second axis and the add-on modules that carry their own usage limits.

Product sizes

For products introduced on or after April 2024 the guide defines four sizes:[1]

Size Guide description
Acumatica Essentials Smaller organisations; five named users included, upgradable to ten
Acumatica Select Small businesses, typically up to 50 employees; users assumed under 50% of employees
Acumatica Prime Lower mid-market, up to 200 employees
Acumatica Enterprise Any size, in a reserved resource environment

The guide adds that included modules vary by industry edition and that performance enhancements (SaaS Reserved Resources) vary by product. Under the October 2023 guide, products were sized as Small Business Edition (five named users, upgradable to ten, or twenty for General Business), Advanced Edition (10 to 250 employees) and Enterprise Edition (250 or more employees).[2] Both guides say that some editions may not be available in all licensing and subscription models.[1]

Industry editions

The guide lists six industry editions, each with an Appendix A datasheet:[1]

  • Distribution, for wholesale and distribution organisations that need integrated Financials, Inventory Control and Order Management.
  • Retail, for online retailers that need integrated eCommerce connectors in addition to financials and inventory.
  • Manufacturing, for organisations managing manufacturing processes.
  • Construction, for general contractors, land developers, home builders and others.
  • Professional Services, for engineering, architecture and IT services firms managing projects, resources and billing.
  • General Business, for organisations that do not fit another edition.

The guide also says Acumatica “may introduce new products, including variations of existing offerings”, which “may not include all the modules available” in other products, and tells customers to ask Acumatica for product-specific information.[1]

Reading the datasheets

Every datasheet uses four symbols: a check mark for included, a plus for available, an x for not available, and an asterisk for geographic limitation. Columns run Essentials, Select, Prime and Enterprise. The datasheets end with a reservation that Acumatica “reserves the right to modify these Datasheets at any time without prior notice” and that features are subject to change during a subscription term.[1] A licence manager should therefore compare the datasheet to the Order Form rather than rely on the current web copy.

Patterns visible in the April 2026 datasheets include:

  • Base modules included in every edition and size: Financials, Acumatica Payments, Monitoring and Automation, Multi-Factor Authentication and AP Document Recognition. Distribution, Retail and Manufacturing also include Inventory Control and Order Management; Construction includes Order Management and Project Accounting; Professional Services includes Project Accounting.
  • Larger-size features: in the Distribution datasheet Global Financials, Intercompany Accounting, Deferred Revenue, Advanced Authentication, AI Automation and AI Insights Anomaly Detection are marked not available for Essentials and available for Select, Prime and Enterprise, while Exchange Integration and Distribution Requirements Planning are marked available only for Prime and Enterprise.
  • Industry content: the Manufacturing datasheet marks Manufacturing Foundation and Discrete Manufacturing as included, shows Estimating and Engineering Change Control as included from Select upward and Finite Planning and Scheduling and Manufacturing Data Collection as included for Enterprise. The Construction datasheet marks Construction Foundation as included and offers Advanced Construction Project Management powered by JobPlanner, which is marked not available in the Distribution, Retail, Manufacturing and Professional Services datasheets. The Professional Services datasheet marks Resource Management powered by ProjectManager as included.
  • Marketplace modules: several items are tagged “Marketplace” (JobPlanner, STACK Takeoff and Estimating, Property Management powered by Sprinterra, ProjectManager), which signals a partner product listed in the datasheet. The vendor’s FAQ states that several ISV marketplace solutions can be purchased directly from Acumatica and appear on its bill.[4] The Price Cap does not apply to Marketplace products.

Module-specific licensing

The guide has a separate section on modules whose licence terms are not captured by the edition:[1]

Module Licensing statement
AI Insights Anomaly Detection Constraint of AI Insights records per day (Select 1M, Prime 5M, Enterprise 25M) and per Generic Inquiry (50K, 250K, 1M); additional packs of 100K, 500K and 2.5M records per day on the datasheets
Advanced Expense Management 1,000 receipt transactions per month included; packs of 5,000 and 25,000; receipt creation in the US, UK and Canada in English
AP Document Recognition 50 pages per month; packs of 5,000 and 25,000 pages on the datasheets; US, UK and Canada in English
AP Payments Powered by AvidXchange; currently available to U.S.-based SaaS customers only
Accounts Payable Automation Powered by BILL; one licence per company; per-transaction fees paid directly to BILL; available in the US
Commerce Integration One shopping site per licence; additional licences for other sites or platforms
Acumatica Portals One company and one Portal URL per licence; CRM licence required
Additional Language Packs Localization packages may include language packs; the Canadian package includes English and French Canadian

The geographic limitation of recognition and receipt features is a licence-scope restriction in addition to a functional one. Other features of the expense module, such as Expense Claim Management, are available worldwide.

Portals

An Acumatica Portal can be a Customer Portal, B2B Portal, B2B Ordering Portal, Case Management Portal or Financials Portal. A Portal licence “comes equipped with user access”, although other modules may be needed to activate particular functionality. Additional individual licences are required for multiple companies and multiple URLs, and a valid CRM licence is a precondition.[1] Portal count is therefore a licence dimension in its own right.

Module deactivation

The guide states that specific modules “cannot be removed once they have been activated” because of interdependence between data elements. This matters when a trial activation of a module is later considered unnecessary: the licence can be reduced at renewal only for features that can be disabled, and features may be added at any time but removed only at renewal.[1]

Earlier module models

The October 2023 guide described licensing that is not in the April 2026 text. Field Service came with base licensing for 1,000 service appointments per month, packs of 1,000, 5,000 and 25,000, and an alternative technician-based licence (10 scheduled people and vehicles, expansions of 10, 50 and 250). Business Card Recognition was to be deprecated in 2023 R2 and unsupported after 2023-12-31. Point of Sale powered by IIG was licensed per store with three workstations, US Payroll started at ten employees with expansions of 10, 50 and 250, and localizations for Canada, the UK and Mexico included their language packs.[2] Customers on older contracts should check those definitions against their Order Form.

Artificial intelligence modules

AI capabilities appear as modules and as terms. The datasheets list AI Studio, AI Automation and AI Insights Anomaly Detection by size. The vendor’s AI page describes an AI Assistant, agents, connections to preferred model providers and Model Context Protocol servers, and refers to “AI-unit consumption threshold warnings” without defining the unit.[5]

Use of AI Features is governed by the Acumatica Artificial Intelligence Terms, which are incorporated into the SaaS Agreement or EULA and prevail over them for AI Features. Enabling the features is consent for Acumatica to use inputs, outputs and Subscriber Data to provide and to train, develop and improve its AI models, “notwithstanding the expiration or termination of the Agreement”. The terms prohibit submitting protected health information or other sensitive personal data and require human review before relying on outputs.[3] Licence managers should treat enabling an AI feature as a contractual event, not only a configuration setting.

Implementation packages

APEX packages scope setup assistance by edition: APEX Core covers Financials set-up review, with Bank Feeds, Fixed Assets, CRM and plug-ins as available modules; APEX Construction adds Project Accounting, Timecards and Order Management; Distribution adds Order Management, Inventory Control and Purchase Orders; Manufacturing adds Bill of Materials, Production Management and MRP for the Select package.[7] These are services, not licence entitlements.

Deployment choice affects the edition

The product editions page presents the same edition under two subscription types: an annual subscription for Acumatica hosted in a public cloud such as AWS, and an annual subscription for Acumatica hosted in a private cloud with the hosting provider of the customer’s choice.[6] The edition names do not change with deployment, but SaaS Reserved Resources apply only to SaaS. See SaaS Reserved Resources and deployment.

Practical points

  • Map each activated module to a row on the datasheet and to a line on the Order Form.
  • Record per-company and per-URL entitlements (AP Automation, Portals, Commerce sites) and compare them to deployed instances.
  • Watch geography: expense receipt recognition and AP Document Recognition are tied to the US, UK and Canada in English.
  • Keep a list of partner (Marketplace) modules, because their terms and the Price Cap treatment differ.

Out of scope

This article does not cover pricing, third-party licence terms of Marketplace vendors, implementation hours, or the editions of products that Acumatica may introduce after the retrieval date.
