Winget-AutoUpdate (WAU) is an open-source project maintained by GitHub user Romanitho that uses the Windows Package Manager (winget) to update installed applications automatically on a daily schedule. It is released free of charge under the MIT License.
Licensing at a Glance
- Open source
Winget-AutoUpdate is released under the MIT License, copyright 2022 Romanitho.[1]
The project uses the winget tool to update applications daily in system context and notifies users when updates are available and installed.[2]
WAU is distributed as an MSI package (WAU.msi) and can also be installed through winget itself.[3]
Administrators can exclude or restrict updated applications with excluded_apps.txt or included_apps.txt lists, which can also be supplied from a URL, UNC path or Group Policy.[4]
By default WAU checks GitHub and updates itself when a new version is available; this can be disabled with the DISABLEWAUAUTOUPDATE=1 installer property.[5]
