Wibu-Systems

Wibu-Systems makes CodeMeter, a software protection and licensing technology that software vendors use to license and protect their applications through dongles, computer-bound files, cloud containers or licence servers. End users install the CodeMeter Runtime that ships with protected applications.

Licensing at a Glance

  • OEM / bundled

  1. CodeMeter licences can be stored in CmDongle hardware, in CmActLicense files bound to the target computer's hardware, in CmCloudLicense containers on Wibu-Systems servers, or on a licence server in the user's LAN.[1]

  2. For CmActLicense, the software vendor defines how tolerant the licence is to hardware changes and whether it stays valid when moved or copied to a virtual machine.[2]

  3. CodeMeter supports single-user, network, feature-based, pay-per-use, time-based and named-user licence models defined by the vendor of the protected software.[3]

  4. CodeMeter Runtime is the only software end users need to download for a CodeMeter-protected application to run, and vendors deliver it together with their software.[4]

  5. On a licence server, the CodeMeter Runtime Service manages available and used licences and makes them available to network clients.[5]
