UltraVNC

The UltraVNC Team makes UltraVNC, a free VNC remote desktop server and viewer for Windows, together with UltraVNC Single Click, Repeater, PcHelpWare and uvnc2me. UltraVNC is licensed under the GNU GPL, while PcHelpWare and uvnc2me are free but not GPL and may be bundled with commercial software.

Licensing at a Glance

  • Open source
  • Freeware

  1. UltraVNC 1.6.0.0 is free software that may be redistributed and modified under the GNU General Public License version 3 or (at the user's option) any later version.[1]

  2. UltraVNC and UltraVNC SC are GPL and free; PcHelpWareV2 and uvnc2me are free but not GPL.[2]

  3. To use UltraVNC or UltraVNC SC with commercial software, a separate installer is needed or the installer must download UltraVNC, because the GPL does not allow bundling with non-GPL software; PcHelpWare and uvnc2me can be bundled without restriction.[3]

  4. The PcHelpWare server user interface is under the GPL or BSD licence at the user's choice, and its 1SCDLL.dll is freeware; using the driver and DLL for purposes other than remote support requires permission.[4]
