TightVNC

TightVNC is a VNC-compatible remote desktop server and viewer for Windows and other platforms. It is released under the GNU GPL version 2, and commercial source-code licences and SDKs are sold for integration into proprietary products.

  1. There are two licensing options for TightVNC 2.x: the GNU GPL version 2, which is free but does not allow mixing with closed-source products, and a paid commercial source code licence that allows integration into proprietary products.[1]

  2. Under the default GPL licence TightVNC can be downloaded and used for any legally allowed purpose, including commercial use, without payment or a special agreement.[2]

  3. Commercial licences are sold for the Remote Core SDK (viewer components for .NET, macOS, iOS, Java, Android and portable C++), for TightVNC-compatible servers and viewers, for the DFMirage mirror display driver and for a pure C Tight decoder.[3]

  4. Commercial licensing information is provided on request through a form on the licensing page; the site copyright is held by PE Konstantin Kaplinskii.[4]

  5. The download page offers the GPL-licensed C++ source code alongside the Windows installers, and a separate MightyViewer multi-VNC viewer with a fully functional 30-day trial.[5]
