TeXworks

TeXworks is an open source, cross-platform TeX front-end (editor and PDF previewer) developed by Jonathan Kew, Stefan Löffler and Charlie Sharpsteen. It is free software distributed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later.

  1. TeXworks is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 2 or (at the user's option) any later version.[1]

  2. The TeXworks project builds a simple TeX front-end for Windows, GNU/Linux and other X11-based systems, and macOS, based on cross-platform open source tools including the Qt toolkit.[2]

  3. TeX Live (since 2009) and MiKTeX (since 2.8) both include TeXworks for Windows, and stable binaries are also offered for macOS and several Linux packaging formats.[3]

  4. TeXworks 0.6.11 was released in February 2026.[4]
