Tanium
Tanium makes an endpoint management and security platform, delivered on premises or as Tanium Cloud, for discovering, managing and securing endpoints. Its products are generally licensed per endpoint (or per OT Satellite) for a subscription term, with some offerings, such as Tanium Atlas AI credits, charged on usage.
Licensing at a Glance
- Subscription
- Per device
- Consumption / usage based
Tanium products are generally licensed per Endpoint or per OT Satellite, and certain offerings may also carry usage-based fees; quantities and restrictions are set in the quote or schedule.[1]
An Endpoint (Managed OS Instance) is any physical or virtual device where Tanium software can be installed; a hypervisor counts as a single Endpoint when the service is installed at hypervisor level.[2]
Standard Endpoints keep counting towards the licence total for 30 days after their last registration, even if re-imaged, and disaster recovery and VDI endpoints count towards the licence count.[3]
Tanium Atlas in Tanium Cloud is subject to additional fees through AI Credits; from August 3, 2026 each environment receives monthly Free Credits that do not roll over, and extra credits can be purchased.[4]
Under the EULA, Tanium may audit use no more than once in any 12-month period during the term and for one year after, may request system-generated deployment reports within 30 days, and remediation such as buying additional licences is due within 30 days of the final audit report.[5]
