SQLite
SQLite is an embedded, serverless SQL database engine whose source code is dedicated to the public domain. Hwaci, the company that employs the SQLite developers, sells an optional warranty of title, proprietary extensions and support.
Licensing at a Glance
- Open source
- Perpetual licence
- Subscription
All of the code and documentation in SQLite has been dedicated to the public domain, and anyone may copy, modify, use, compile, sell or distribute it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.[1]
No licence is needed to use SQLite; a licence and Warranty of Title is sold for organizations that want indemnity or legal proof of their right to use it.[2]
The warranty of title covers only the core public-domain library and does not grant use of proprietary extensions such as SEE, CEROD or ZIPVFS.[3]
SEE is licensed software: the licence is perpetual, allows unlimited binary copies shipped as part of the licensee's products, and has no per-copy royalties or renewals.[4]
The support page lists a $6000 one-time SQLite licence, a $2000 one-time SEE source licence, a $1500 per year maintenance subscription and $150K per year consortium membership.[5]
