SoX

SoX (Sound eXchange) is an open-source command-line audio processing utility and library (libsox) that converts audio formats and applies effects. The sox application is licensed under the GPL and libsox under the LGPL.

  1. SoX can convert audio files to other popular audio file types and apply sound effects and filters during the conversion; the project lists its licences as GPLv2 and LGPLv2.[1]

  2. sox.c, and thus the SoX user application, is distributed under the GPL, while the files that make up libsox are licensed under the less restrictive LGPL.[2]

  3. Some external packages that can be linked into libsox are GPL-licensed and can be disabled at configure time; if libsox is built with them, it must be distributed under the GPL.[3]

  4. The sox.c source file is licensed under the GNU GPL version 2 or, at the user's option, any later version.[4]
