RPM
RPM is the open-source RPM Package Manager used to build, install, update, query and verify software packages on Red Hat, Fedora, SUSE and other Linux distributions. It is licensed under the GPL version 2 or later, with the librpm library code also available under the LGPL.
Licensing at a Glance
- Open source
RPM is free software released under the GPL-2.0-or-later; the source code in the lib and rpmio subdirectories is licensed GPL-2.0-or-later OR LGPL-2.1-or-later.[1]
The LGPL alternative for the lib and rpmio code is provided so that applications can link against the RPM library (librpm) without having to be distributed under the GPL.[2]
RPM is a core component of Linux distributions including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora, SUSE Linux Enterprise, openSUSE and CentOS, and the RPM format is part of the Linux Standard Base.[3]
