Licensing at a Glance
- Open source
RPM is free software released under the GPL-2.0-or-later.[1]
Source code in the lib and rpmio subdirectories may alternatively be distributed under the LGPL, so that applications can link against librpm without being distributed under the GPL.[2]
In SPDX terms the COPYING file gives the whole code base as GPL-2.0-or-later, with lib and rpmio code optionally LGPL-2.0-or-later; the project's About page describes that option as LGPL-2.1-or-later.[3]
RPM is a core component of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora, SUSE Linux Enterprise, openSUSE, CentOS and other distributions, and the RPM format is part of the Linux Standard Base.[4]
