All elements of the Rocky Linux operating system developed by Rocky Linux project contributors are licensed under the BSD 3-Clause licence.[1]
Pre-existing software components included in Rocky Linux are each governed by their own open source licence, and users are responsible for reviewing and complying with those licences; the list can be produced with an rpm query.[2]
Rocky Linux is described as an open-source enterprise operating system designed to be 100% bug-for-bug compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with a 10-year support lifecycle at no cost.[3]
The Rocky Linux project is hosted by the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation (RESF), which holds the Rocky Linux registered trademark.[4]
The Foundation's trademark policy says its marks must not be used in a way that suggests products or services are offered, endorsed or sponsored by the Foundation; active Principal Sponsors are granted broader rights to use the marks.[5]
