Redis

Redis Ltd. develops the Redis in-memory data store and sells the managed Redis Cloud service and self-managed Redis Software. Redis Open Source 8 and later is tri-licensed under RSALv2, SSPLv1 or AGPLv3, while its proprietary products require a commercial licence.

Licensing at a Glance

  • Open source
  • Subscription
  • Consumption / usage based
  • Capacity (data, assets, nodes)
  • Free tier
  1. From Redis 8, users of Redis Open Source may choose one of three licences: RSALv2, SSPLv1 or AGPLv3; Redis proprietary products are closed source and require a commercial licence from Redis Ltd.[1]

  2. Redis 7.2.x and earlier remain under the BSD-3-Clause licence, and Redis Community Edition 7.4.x to 7.8.x remain under the dual RSALv2/SSPLv1 licence.[2]

  3. Redis Insight and Redis for VS Code are provided under a commercial licence to paying Redis customers; community users and non-paying individuals use them under SSPLv1.[3]

  4. Redis Cloud offers a free plan limited to a 30 MB single database, and paid Essentials plans starting from $0.007 per hour ($5 per month).[4]

  5. A Redis Software cluster licence key determines shard usage and limits; one licence can be deployed on only one cluster, and each cluster, including passive or cold standby clusters, needs its own licence.[5]

  6. Redis Software trial mode is limited to 30 days and 4 shards, including master and replica shards.[6]
