Qt Group

Qt Group develops the Qt cross-platform application and UI framework and related development and quality tools. Qt is dual-licensed: commercial Qt is sold as term subscriptions, and the Qt Community Edition is available under the LGPL or GPL.

Licensing at a Glance

  • Subscription
  • Named user
  • Open source
  1. Qt uses a dual licensing model: Commercial Qt for building proprietary products, and the Qt Community Edition for open-source use under the LGPL or GPL with the associated obligations.[1]

  2. Combining or mixing Commercial Qt and the Qt Community Edition in the same application or device development project is not allowed, and switching an existing product between them generally requires special permission from Qt.[2]

  3. Commercial licences such as Qt for Application Development are sold as subscriptions; cancellations must be made at least 30 days before the renewal date.[3]

  4. Small business pricing is limited to companies with annual revenue and/or funding of at most EUR 1 million, with a maximum of three small business licences per company, 12-month terms and conversion to standard pricing at renewal if revenue exceeds the limit.[4]

  5. Everyone in one software development project needs the same type of licence (Qt for Application Development or Qt for Device Creation); the small business application licence cannot be used to create devices.[5]
