Obsidian, operated by Dynalist Inc., makes the Obsidian local-first note-taking application. The app is free for all uses, including commercial, with optional paid Commercial and Catalyst licences and paid Sync and Publish services.

  1. Obsidian is free for all purposes, including personal, commercial, non-profit, educational and government use, and can be used without creating an account.[1]

  2. Commercial licences are optional, bought annually to show an organization's support; Catalyst licences are optional one-time licences for individuals with perks such as early access to beta builds.[2]

  3. The pricing page lists the Commercial licence at $50 per user per year and the Catalyst licence at $25 as a one-time payment, and states that paying for commercial use is not required.[3]

  4. Sync is priced at $4 per user per month billed annually ($5 monthly) and Publish at $8 per site per month billed annually ($10 monthly).[4]

  5. The Terms of Service govern use of the services of Dynalist Inc., the legal business name of the company.[5]
