NVIDIA

NVIDIA designs GPUs and accelerated computing platforms and publishes drivers, CUDA, AI software and virtual GPU software. Enterprise software such as NVIDIA vGPU is licensed separately from the hardware and enforced through the NVIDIA License System.

Licensing at a Glance

  • Floating / network
  1. NVIDIA vGPU software is available as three licensed products: NVIDIA RTX Virtual Workstation (vWS), NVIDIA Virtual PC (vPC) and NVIDIA Virtual Applications (vApps).[1]

  2. When licensing is enforced through software, GPU performance is degraded if a VM has not obtained a licence within 20 minutes and degraded further after 24 hours.[2]

  3. A physical GPU in pass-through mode or a bare-metal deployment requires a vWS licence, can run at reduced capability with a vApps licence, and cannot use vPC.[3]

  4. Where licensing is enforced only through the EULA, no licences are checked out from the license server and the customer must make sure all required licences have been purchased.[4]

  5. Licensing settings persist across reboots, and a VM obtains its licence over the network from a license server.[5]
