Monotype is a font company that designs and licenses typefaces through the Monotype Fonts subscription platform, the MyFonts store and custom and embedded font products. Fonts are licensed separately for each environment of use, such as desktop, web, digital ads, embedded products and applications.

Monotype states that each font file is a separate piece of software that needs to be properly licensed.[1]
Monotype offers separate licence types by use: desktop licences for installing fonts on computers for print or static images, webfont licences for websites, digital ad licences for emails and HTML5 ads, embedded licences for physical products and software, and application licences for mobile apps and SaaS products.[2]
A single typeface must be licensed for each environment in which it will be used.[3]
A Desktop Licence lets a licensee or a specified number of licensed users use the fonts on a specified number of computers under the EULA, which can limit output to static and image formats.[4]
The Company Desktop Licence is an add-on that extends a Desktop Licence to allow fonts to be uploaded to cloud servers for editing and collaboration across the company and approved third parties, and Monotype plans require one sized to the company.[5]
