MaxMind

MaxMind provides IP geolocation and intelligence data (GeoIP) and the minFraud fraud-scoring service. It offers the free GeoLite databases under an EULA that incorporates CC BY-SA 4.0, and sells commercial GeoIP database site licences and web services.

  1. GeoLite is a free version of MaxMind's IP geolocation databases, governed by the GeoLite End User License Agreement, which incorporates Creative Commons; attribution is required.[1]

  2. Copyrightable elements of GeoLite are governed by the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, and internal users also receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence for their own internal business purposes.[2]

  3. GeoLite users must use updated database versions promptly and destroy old versions within 30 days of an update; MaxMind may stop offering GeoLite free of charge at any time.[3]

  4. MaxMind offers a Commercial GeoLite licence for incorporating GeoLite data into products and services, and GeoIP products for commercial uses needing higher accuracy.[4]

  5. A GeoIP database site licence covers the company that agrees to the EULA; affiliates and subsidiaries must buy their own site licences, and multiple copies are allowed only if accessible solely by the licensee and its employees.[5]

  6. GeoIP databases may be used only for Internal Restricted Business Purposes (content customisation, fraud prevention and geographic reporting); sharing the data with third parties requires a commercial or redistribution licence.[6]
