MariaDB plc and the MariaDB Foundation develop MariaDB Server, an open-source relational database under GPLv2. MariaDB plc sells the MariaDB Enterprise Platform subscriptions and the MariaDB Cloud service, and licenses some products such as MaxScale under the Business Source License.

  1. MariaDB Server is and will remain free and open-source software licensed under GPLv2, independent of any commercial entity.[1]

  2. MariaDB Server remains licensed under the GPL, while its connectors are licensed under the LGPL.[2]

  3. MariaDB plc uses BSL 1.1 for some projects such as MaxScale: non-production use is always free, production use may need a paid licence unless covered by an Additional Use Grant, and the code becomes open source on the Change Date or four years after first release, whichever comes first.[3]

  4. The self-managed MariaDB Enterprise Platform is offered in Enterprise Platform, Plus and Ultimate tiers with 24x7 support, priced by quote.[4]

  5. MariaDB Cloud offers a free tier on the Community Server and paid tiers, with the Power tier starting at $0.16 per hour.[5]
