LZ4

LZ4 is a lossless compression algorithm and library, with a high-compression LZ4_HC variant and a command-line tool. The library is licensed under the BSD 2-Clause licence and the remaining programs under GPL-2.0-or-later.

  2. The LZ4 repository uses two licences: all files in the lib directory use BSD 2-Clause, and all other files use GPL-2.0-or-later unless stated otherwise.[2]

  3. The split is intended so that the lib files can be included in third-party applications, while the programs, tests and examples are meant to be used as-is without third-party integration.[3]

  4. LZ4 includes a high-compression derivative, LZ4_HC, which trades CPU time for compression ratio.[4]
