The lsof project maintains lsof (LiSt Open Files), a Unix command-line utility that lists files opened by processes. It is free software under a permissive Purdue University licence.
Licensing at a Glance
- Open source
lsof was developed and maintained by Vic Abell from 1994; maintainership has passed to the lsof-org team on GitHub.[1]
The lsof licence permits anyone to use the software for any purpose on any computer system and to alter and redistribute it freely, subject to the licence conditions.[2]
Conditions include that credit to the authors and Purdue University appears in documentation and sources, altered versions are plainly marked, and the licence notice is not removed.[3]
lsof is actively maintained for Linux, FreeBSD, macOS, NetBSD, OpenBSD and Solaris/OpenIndiana; AIX, HP-UX and SCO ports are not maintained.[4]
