LEAD Technologies

LEAD Technologies makes the LEADTOOLS developer toolkits for imaging, document, OCR, barcode, PDF, medical (DICOM) and multimedia applications; the current LEADTOOLS licence agreement is issued by Apryse Software Corp. Licensing separates per-programmer Development Licenses from fee-bearing Deployment Licenses for the applications built with the SDK.

  1. Each Development License covers one named programmer, who may install the SDK on a primary and one additional development computer, plus up to two build machines used by developers who do not program with the SDK.[1]

  2. A Deployment License Fee is payable for each deployment of the end-user software, whether single user, concurrent, server, multi-user or consumption-based (per transaction).[2]

  3. Unless an invoice states otherwise, Deployment Licenses for internal and hosted-service deployments are valid for one year and renewed annually while the software is in use.[3]

  4. Commercial and hosted-service deployments require a separately executed Commercial Deployment License or Hosted Service Deployment License agreement before deployment.[4]

  5. Licensees must keep deployment records, answer an annual deployment activity report, and allow an independent inspection at most once per calendar year on 30 days' notice; an underpayment above 5% makes the licensee pay the audit cost.[5]

  6. Minor version updates are free; major new versions (whole-number or .5 releases) are licensed by purchasing Development and Deployment Licenses for the new version, though existing paid internal and hosted deployments on annual fees can receive them without an additional Deployment License Fee.[6]
