Licensing at a Glance

  • Freeware

  1. The licence agreement states that the software is free for both personal and commercial use and may be installed and used on your computers free of charge.[1]

  2. The software may be redistributed only free of charge, without misrepresenting its origin; the FAQ adds that it must not be modified, wrapped in a secondary installer or bundled with other software.[2]

  3. Commercial use means use in a commercial environment such as an office or school, not selling the software; computer shops may install it for customers only free of charge.[3]

  4. The Classic Shell name and logo are trademarks of the author and may not be used to identify other products or services.[4]

  5. The latest version, Classic Shell 4.3.1, is open source, with its source code available from SourceForge.[5]

  6. The author stopped developing Classic Shell in December 2017, and volunteers continue the code as the Open Shell project on GitHub.[6]
