Licensing at a Glance
- Open source
freedesktop.org hosts development of free and open-source software for graphical and desktop systems and does not itself produce a desktop; all software on the site is available as open source.[1]
The XDG specifications hosted by freedesktop.org may be used and implemented by anyone; freedesktop.org is not a formal standards body and has no compliance test or certification.[2]
Hosted projects are available under open-source licences on equitable terms and do not require Contributor License Agreements that assign more rights to one party than another.[3]
D-Bus is licensed under the user's choice of the Academic Free License 2.1 or the GNU GPL version 2 or later; some standalone binaries are GPL-only.[4]
The core Mesa library is licensed under the MIT licence, while some other Mesa components, such as the GLX client code, use different licences.[5]
