Fortra

Fortra is a software company with a portfolio of cybersecurity and IT automation products, including GoAnywhere, Titus, Tripwire, Core Impact and Cobalt Strike. Its products are licensed perpetually or by subscription under product-specific agreements, often per seat or per authorized user.

  1. Under Fortra's Software License and Services Agreement, the licence term covers a designated number of Seats for a perpetual or limited period as shown on the invoice; Seats are individuals with a unique user ID who can use or be managed by the software, including users marked active or inactive.[1]

  2. If maintenance fees on a perpetual licence are not paid before the maintenance period ends, the customer may keep using the last version it paid maintenance for, but Fortra may suspend maintenance and require back fees or a relicensing fee to reinstate it.[2]

  3. The same agreement requires customers to keep records to verify compliance and allows Fortra, on written request and no more than once a year, to audit use of the software, with any underpaid fees invoiced.[3]

  4. Cobalt Strike, Outflank Security Tooling and Core Impact are licensed for lawful penetration testing and red teaming only, with one individual Authorized User per purchased licence key.[4]

  5. For those offensive security products, the licence term defaults to 12 months if the order form does not specify one and renews automatically for the same duration unless either party gives notice at least 30 days before renewal.[5]
