ELinks

ELinks is a community-maintained text-mode web browser that originated as a fork of the Links browser. It is distributed as open source under version 2 of the GNU General Public License.

Licensing at a Glance

  • Open source

  1. The ELinks COPYING file states that the only valid version of the GPL for ELinks is version 2, not later versions, unless explicitly stated otherwise.[1]

  2. The COPYING file notes that relicensing to GPLv3 has not been worked out or agreed upon among contributors.[2]

  3. Some build-support files in the source tree carry other licences (permissive licences or GPLv2 or later), but they are not installed by "make install" and typically do not appear in binary packages.[3]

  4. ELinks began as a development fork of the Links text browser written by Mikulas Patocka.[4]
