Licensing at a Glance

  • Freeware
  1. Paint.NET has two releases: the Classic release downloaded from the website is free of charge, and the Store release from Microsoft's Windows Store is paid; functionality is the same except that the Store release updates fully automatically.[1]

  2. Paint.NET may be used for business, commercial, school and government use as well as personal use, and may be installed on as many systems as desired; donations are requested but not required.[2]

  3. The main restriction is that the Paint.NET software itself may not be modified, and modified copies may not be distributed.[3]

  4. The Classic release may be redistributed only free of charge; plugins may not be redistributed without their authors' permission.[4]

  5. Paint.NET is licensed only for use as an application; using its libraries (DLLs) in other software is prohibited.[5]
