CODESYS

CODESYS makes the manufacturer-independent CODESYS Development System for IEC 61131-3 industrial controller programming, along with SoftPLC runtimes and add-ons sold through the CODESYS Store. The development system is free to download, while protected runtime and add-on products are licensed as full or time-limited licences held in a CODESYS soft container or USB dongle.

  1. The CODESYS Development System V3 is listed in the CODESYS Store at €0.00 and can be downloaded for free.[1]

  2. A SoftPLC runtime needs a licence that matches the application for 24/7 operation; without a valid licence it runs in demo mode and shuts down automatically after 2 hours.[2]

  3. The EULA defines Free, Demo, Full and Time licence models; a CODESYS Softcontainer or CODESYS Key (hardware dongle) is required to use a demo, full or time licence.[3]

  4. Full licences are fee-based, unrestricted, simple and non-transferable; time licences grant a non-transferable right of use for an agreed contiguous period, and products named 'Abo', 'Abonnement' or 'Subscription' may only be used for a limited period.[4]

  5. The EULA prohibits editing, disassembling, decompiling or otherwise reverse engineering the software to bypass the licensing mechanism, and open source components remain under their own licences.[5]

  6. Downloading or installing the software constitutes acceptance of the EULA, which states no geographic restriction.[6]
