Anyone can download, install and receive updates to Ubuntu for free; it is freely available for personal use and, for organisations, internal use.[1]
Ubuntu may be modified for personal or internal use but redistributed only when unmodified; Ubuntu is an aggregate work whose packages keep their own licences.[2]
Ubuntu Pro is priced per machine per year, with separate prices for workstations and for servers with unlimited VMs, plus optional weekday or 24/7 support tiers.[3]
Ubuntu Pro is free for personal use on up to 5 physical machines, or 50 machines for official Ubuntu Community members; enterprises can take a 30-day trial.[4]
Ubuntu Pro on public clouds is metered by the hour and billed through the cloud provider, typically at 3–4.5% of the compute list price.[5]
Ubuntu Pro adds Expanded Security Maintenance for the Main repository for 5 years beyond the standard LTS support period, and security patching for the Universe repository for 10 years.[6]
