B&R Industrial Automation, part of ABB, makes industrial automation hardware and the Automation Studio engineering environment, mapp Technology software components and IIoT tools. Automation Studio is licensed for commercial use with an annual, automatically renewing licence key, with free evaluation, education and student licences.

Automation Studio can be downloaded with full functionality free of charge; an evaluation licence key gives free access for 90 days and can be extended by further 90-day periods as often as required.^[1]
The commercial licence for Automation Studio is ordered from a sales representative, is valid for one year and renews automatically for a further 12 months, and is activated by entering the licence key.^[2]
The commercial Automation Studio licence does not include software packages that require a time-limited licence, such as mapp Technology.^[3]
The education licence is a site licence letting students at an educational institution use the full functionality of Automation Studio for 400 days; commercial use requires a different licence.^[4]
IIoT Connector / AcoposTrak Monitor and Automation Studio Target for Simulink are also licensed commercially for one year with automatic 12-month renewal.^[5]
