Apache Software Foundation
The Apache Software Foundation is a non-profit that hosts open-source projects such as the Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat and Apache OpenOffice. All of its software is released under the Apache License and is available without charge.
Licensing at a Glance
- Open source
All software produced by the ASF or any of its projects is licensed under the terms of the licences listed on the ASF licences page; Apache License 2.0 is the current licence.[1]
All ASF software is freely available without charge, and the ASF does not distinguish between personal, internal or commercial use; the licence terms always apply.[2]
Modified Apache code may be given away, sold or kept private, but the original code remains under the Apache License and use of the Foundation's software must be acknowledged.[3]
Apache License 2.0 is compatible with GPL version 3 but not with GPL version 2, because of its patent termination and indemnification provisions.[4]
Apache project names and logos are trademarks of the ASF, governed by a separate trademark policy.[5]
