- Evidence
- The CommCell or SaaS tenant is the licence container
- Front-end TB counts the latest full or synthetic full per subclient
- Per-VM or socket licensing excludes TB counting of any VM in the CommCell
- Socket and per-VM licensing cannot coexist in one CommCell
- Hard-enforced licences restrict at about 110% of purchase
- Customer is responsible where usage is not hard enforced
- Multi-tier architectures may not reduce the licence requirement
- Expired term licence keys make the CommCell restore-only
- Lapsed maintenance freezes perpetual rights at the current version
- LPAR, LDOM and PaaS databases are not virtual machines
- VMs must be detected through VSA or the full File System agent
- Kubernetes workloads consume VOI or structured capacity
- A VM protected by several agents counts once
- Capped OI covers 500 GB and cannot be pooled
- OI licences may cover VMs but not socket overages
- Each cluster member that can run backups consumes a licence
- Proxy-protected NAS and file systems are never licensed as virtual
- Backups of Commvault infrastructure consume no licence
- Each user and application combination is a separate user
- Journaling counts unique senders from the licensee domain
- SharePoint backup requires licensing every read/write user
- Endpoint user licences cover five devices (software) or three (SaaS)
- AD protection counts all enabled accounts in managed domains
- Commvault may validate heartbeat counts from public data
- DevOps users are licensed per platform
- Unlicensed storage pools may be set to read-only
- Grid node licences do not cover client data protection
- HyperScale 1.5 storage may never be partially licensed
- Bundle features are granted in the purchased quantity
- Changing licence metric requires moving to subscription
- Forfeiting perpetual rights needs a signed agreement and gives no refund
- Service providers may not use end-customer packaged licences for hosting
- SaaS fair-use ceilings: 100 GB per user and limited AirGap recovery
- Dev/test installations rely on the 60-day evaluation
