- N-central User Guide: devices can be added "in either Professional or Essential license mode". Essential mode has longer minimum scan intervals and excludes remote control, patch management, custom services, Backup Exec, SNMP and EDF monitoring and scheduled tasks.

- Assigned per device when added; can be changed to Professional, after which N-central re-applies service templates. Used for break/fix, proof of concept and mixed environments (for example Essential on workstations, Professional on servers).
