- Definition
- nShield HSM licensing: client licenses control "the number of application hosts that can consume an HSM in its network appliance form factor" (nShield 5c, nShield 5c 10G or nShield Connect XC). Network appliance HSMs include a default total of 3 client licenses allowing a maximum of 3 concurrent client connections.
- Counting rules
- Applied to an individual HSM and linked to its serial number; a perpetual HSM feature activation. The maximum that can be added to one HSM is capped by performance tier (Base, Mid, High); an Enterprise Client license lifts the cap. On a network-attached HSM client licences are a dynamic feature and must be re-applied if the HSM is initialised.
- Floors / minimums
- Three client licenses are included with every network appliance HSM; more are an additional charge. Enterprise Client license is aimed at needs typically over 30 clients.
