- Definition
- Up to two Sockets. Socket means a socket occupied by a CPU. The RHEL subscription guide (4 November 2025) restates: up to two sockets where each is occupied by a CPU on a system. Two servers with a single occupied socket on each must be entitled separately; therefore you would purchase two subscriptions—one for each server.
- Counting rules
- Count occupied CPU sockets. Socket-pair is up to two Sockets. One-socket physical server still needs a Socket-pair subscription; a Socket-pair cannot be split across physical systems. Stack: 8-socket machine = four base subscriptions (RHEL subscription guide, 4 Nov 2025). RHEL Server: Socket-pair for each Physical Node or 2 Virtual Nodes (Appendix 1 Exhibit 1.A, February 2026).
- Floors / minimums
- One-socket physical system requires a full Socket-pair subscription (cannot split). RHEL Server capacity: Socket-pair for each Physical Node or 2 Virtual Nodes. OpenShift Appendix 1 SKU example: Socket-pair with up to 64 Cores (capacity on that SKU, not a conversion to Core-pair).
