- A socket occupied by a CPU. The RHEL subscription guide (4 November 2025) restates: a central processing unit (CPU) socket on a motherboard.
- Counting rules
- Count occupied CPU sockets. Socket-pair is up to two Sockets. One occupied socket on a physical server still requires a Socket-pair subscription and cannot be split across two physical systems (RHEL guide). Device Edge / Device Edge Essentials: 1 Socket with up to 32 Cores. NFV Edge: One (1) Socket. Socket is not interchangeable with Socket-pair.

- RHEL for Distributed Computing, Endpoint: Single Socket for each Physical Node or 2 Virtual Nodes. Device Edge: 1 Socket with up to 32 Cores. Edge Device use case: Bare Metal Nodes (single Socket up to 32 Cores).
