- Definition
- “Server License” means a license to install and use Software on any computer being used as a server. Server Licenses may be subject to a limited number of server cores or distributed deployment on multiple servers as described in the Ordering Documents or Documentation. If the Software description includes failover use rights, each Server License includes a Failover License.
- Counting rules
- Esri white paper (November 2018): the ArcGIS Server component of ArcGIS Enterprise is licensed by CPU cores; hyper-threads do not count; cores may be counted as physical or virtual, whichever is more advantageous. A 4-core license on an unvirtualized 8-core machine is out of compliance until 4 additional cores are licensed. Cloud vCPUs should be converted to physical core equivalents.

- Minimum initial purchase of 4 cores per physical location for ArcGIS Enterprise (2 cores for ArcGIS Enterprise Workgroup); additional cores in 2-core increments (white paper, November 2018). E300 footnote 4: Workgroup optional capability servers limited to 1 four-core server.
