- Esri white paper (November 2018; month only): a 4-core license installed on an 8-core physical machine without virtualization uses all 8 cores and is out of compliance until 4 additional cores are licensed; virtualizing so the license runs on 4 virtual cores satisfies the requirement. In cloud environments one vCPU does not always equal one physical core; use the provider’s physical core equivalency.
