- Statement
- After determining the number of activated processor cores (full capacity or sub-capacity lower-of), multiply by PVUs per core from IBM’s Processor Value Unit tables. x86 table “Requirements as of publish date: 08 May 2024”; RISC and System z table “25 September 2024.” Quoted IBM socket buckets (examples, not a reprint of every CPU): Intel Xeon post-Nehalem (including Xeon 6 and Xeon Scalable) = 70 / 100 / 120 PVUs per core for maximum sockets 2 / 4 / >4; AMD EPYC = 70; “Any / All others” = 100. “If sockets on two or more servers are connected to form a Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) Server, the maximum number of sockets per server increases.” Printed IBM examples: 2-socket × 6 cores = 840 PVUs (70×12); 4-socket × 6 cores = 2400 (100×24); 8-socket × 6 cores = 5760 (120×48). The PVU table does not apply to Container Licensing (covered separately).
- Applies when
- Converting counted processor cores to PVU entitlements using IBM’s published PVU tables (not Container Licensing’s 70-flat rate).
- Applies to
- Passport Advantage programs licensed by Processor Value Unit (PVU). Not Container Licensing. Not BYOSL Note 1 (70-flat only where IBM footnotes it).
- Aliases
- PVU per core; PVU table; socket bucket; SMP connected sockets
