- Sole-tenant nodes (2026-09-24) and Bringing your own licenses: host events occur approximately every 4 to 6 weeks. The default policy live-migrates VMs to any new sole-tenant node and suits per-user or per-device licenses, not minimizing physical cores. Restart in place stops VMs and restarts them on the same physical server (VM on-host-maintenance must be TERMINATE) and suits licenses based on physical cores or processors. Migrate within node group live-migrates within a fixed group of physical servers; Compute Engine reserves 1 holdback node for every 20 nodes. Compute Engine reports the physical server ID so historical server usage can be viewed in Cloud Logging.
