- Gemini API billing (last updated 2026-09-20): upgrading from the Free Tier "means linking a billing account and prepaying to add a minimum of $5 (or equivalent in other currencies) of credits to your account." Paid tier status is dynamic: "the Gemini API will only serve requests if you have a positive Prepay credit balance." The Prepay system propagates to all users starting March 23, 2026; some accounts are assigned Postpay in the interim.
